Spelling list for this week, October 4, 2008

Ben and Shira are practicing for the Spelling Bee in January. I'm using KidSpell.com to help them practice their words. Here is this week's list.

carnivore
gregarious
ostentatious
prosaic
herbivore
prodigal
magnanimous
benevolent
mercurial
simile
jovial
ridiculous
innate
obstinate
discern
mediocre
insidious
rupture
precipitate
erudite

Last week the kids decided that the words were too difficult and they didn't want to take part in the spelling bee. However, on Wednesday when they saw a friend merrily spelling the words, they decided that they wanted to do spelling bee again and proceeded to spell all their words correctly.

My older daughter used to participate in spelling bees; she won first place several years in a row. I'm going to check out the spelling program you linked to.

How cool that she won. B&S are technically in 2nd grade so theoretically they aren't eligible to enter the spelling bee yet. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, in the mean time they are loving practicing and they love our weekly practice bee.

How is your daughter enjoying school out of the home?

Hey, did you see that the lady sent out a list with the words divided by age!? That seems much better -- after this week let's recalibrate to the 3rd grade list. I haven't looked at it yet, laptop still in the car (I'm at Ahno's) but I bet relevant and alliteration aren't on it.

I wouldn't have chosen those words, but since we are doing the spelling bee, these are the words we need to do. The kids are rising to the challenge. it's amazing how well children can do when they are motivated

Hi Shez -- My daughter doesn't start attending high school until January. I feel like that time is rushing at me like a freight train. :-) I hope she'll like it (she'll be taking 2 classes -- with block scheduling that's a half day) I am trying to get her into honors English, which I think she'd like. Of course, if it doesn't work for her, I'll pull her out in a heartbeat. ;-)

They are really difficult words for 2nd graders but your kids are shiningly brilliant :-) and I'm sure they will be great in the bee.
Is it a live event or online or...?
We may be interested in something like that in a few years but not just yet.
