Yet another teacher outrage!

Last week we heard about the teacher who had her students vote on whether to keep an autistic child in the class, this week we hear about a teacher who verbally abused yet another kindergartener.

You can read the article here.

Calling a 5 year old child, "ignorant, self-absorbed, pathetic and selfish" is not acceptable. She then asked the entire class if this child is someone they wanted to be with. The class replied, "Nooo", in unison to which she replied, "See, your friends don't want to be with you. I don't know what else to tell you. So you are not going to have friends because of your actions.".

I understand that this child had behavioral problems all year, but still, an adult, who is charged with the care and nurturing of our children, should have better self control. She should have taken action long before she lost it.

The parents say the teacher suggested a behavior plan but when they pushed her for one, she replied that she didn't have time.

I've seen children's behavior when they are en masse and I don't envy classroom teachers in the slightest, however, that just doesn't excuse this type of behavior.

I took my daughter out of school because of a teacher with a similar style. (see http://ackroydhouse.blogspot.com/2008/02/no-options.html)

The best part of the video is at the end where they say the teacher needs an opportunity to tell her side of the story. Hmmmm....what could be the reasoning to act not only unprofessional but plain old mean and like a bully....she had a headache?? She hadn't asked for help soon enough?? I just can't think of what she could come up with that might be justifiable in treating any child like this.

If I could change the world....this is one thing I'd change!
